Annual Fests to be organized at archaeological and cultural sites of the state
Chief Minister directs officials to constitute Folk Art Council
Raipur, 22 November 2019/ State Government has decided to constitute ‘State Folk Art Council’ for preserving and nurturing the glorious and rich culture of Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has also approved the proposal of constituting the council. This council would work as an autonomous body. Chief Minister approved the proposal of constituting State Folk Art Council and directed Chief Secretary to take necessary action in the direction. State Folk Art Council would collect the literature related to folk arts and publish it. In addition, the council would also ensure registration of folk art troupes of all kinds, enlist them and take necessary steps to provide musical instruments and other things required by them. This council would regularly organize block-level, district-level and state-level competitions, provide honorarium to excellent artists, establish institutes of providing training folk arts and ensure folk art and cultural exchange with other states. State Folk Art Council would promote folk arts of the state through modern promotional mediums, organize annual festivals at archaeological and cultural heritage sites, and would also provide suggestions to government for preservation of folk arts. Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh has rich cultural heritage. It is our responsibility to preserve the indigenous culture of the state. Folk arts are not meant only for entertainment, they also reflect the history, science and wisdom for life. Folk arts are effective medium to create communal harmony and cultural awareness. As these artforms are so closely related to our lives, it is important that we conserve it. Presently, the new generation in artist families is drifting away from the art lineage. This is the reason why Folk Art Council is being constituted to preserve the folk arts and for welfare of the artists.
