Two new universities to be established in state : Horticulture and Forestry University to be named after Mahatma Gandhi and new university in Raigarh to be named after late Mr. Nand Kumar Patel
Raipur,23 November 2019/ In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel at his residence office today, proposals for amendment in certain sections of Panchayati Raj Act and Chhattisgarh University Act were approved to be presented in Legislative Assembly.
Presently, in case of no disable person being elected in three-tier panchayat raj institutions, there is no provision for their nomination in panchayats concerned. Besides, regarding educational qualification of elected panchayat officials, it is mandatory for the candidates to have passed 5th standard passed for the post of Panch and 8th standard for the posts of higher rank than Panch. Keeping in view the need for amendment in aforementioned provisions, the department has proposed following amendments in Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act, 1993- nomination of disable candidates for in the panchayats where there is no representation of disable people, and also making literacy the eligibility criteria for contesting the election of three-tier panchayat raj institutions. These proposals have been approved by the cabinet in the meeting held today.
In addition, Cabinet has decided to establish two new universities in the state, including Horticulture and Forestry University to be named after Mahatma Gandhi and a university in Raigarh to be named after late Mr. Nand Kumar Patel. In the meeting, amendment proposals for various other bills to be presented in legislative assembly session were approved.
