Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reaches UN Headquarters

Chief Minister invites investors to invest in IT, digital technology and non-core sector

Raipur,18 February 2020/ Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel along with Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant and his delegation today visited United Nations Headquarters. Administrative Office United Nation New York Mr. Anand Pandey welcomed them on the occasion and took them on a tour to UN Headquarters, informing them about the entire procedure.
Thereafter, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel attended the programme organized by Permanent Mission of India To The UNHQ New York. On the occasion, Indian Ambassador and India’s permanent representative in UN Mr. Saiyyad Akbaruddin welcome them and discussed in detail about the economic-industrial activities being conducted in the State.
Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said in his address to the programme, provided information about the various public welfare schemes and innovations that are being implemented in Chhattisgarh by the state government. Chief Minister invited investments in Information Technology, Digital Technology and non-core sections of Chhattiisgarh. Investors present in the programme appreciated the favourable environment of Chhattisgarh and expressed interest for investment in various sectors of the state.
Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh was formed in year 2000. At that time, Chhattisgarh’s budget was 6000 crore. Today, the size of Chhattisgarh’s budget is more than Rs one lakh crore. But when per capita income is taken into consideration, a huge gap can be noticed. Nearly 40% of the population lives below poverty line. He further said that Ex-Prime Minister Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru had established Bhilai Steel Plant in year 1955. Later, steel plants of private sector were set up at several places including Raipur, Raigarh and others. Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand are three such states of India, where iron, coal and bauxite are found. Chhattisgarh has a diamond mine as well, however mining has not been started.
Mr. Baghel said that Chhattisgarh is abundant in mineral resources and has a number of industries in the core sector. Electricity production has increased from 4 thousand MW to 22 thousand MW. Chhattisgarh supplies electricity to Goa, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharasthra and other states of India. Chhattisgarh has cement plant as well. But so many industries in the core sector, there is a major difference in living standards of people living here. Coal block situated in Korba district of Chhattisgarh has the production capacity of 10thousand MW. Chhattisgarh also has an aluminum plant.
Chief Minister said that Government of India has declared 110 aspiring districts, which includes 10 districts of Chhattisgarh. Korba is also one of the aspiring districts, which has both minerals and industries. Mr. Baghel gave detailed information about the Chhattisgarh’s geographical features, natural resources, socio-economic aspects and cultural features. He also informed about the various steps being taken by the government.
