Chief Minister Baghel writes letter to Prime Minister : Requests repeal of CAA

Raipur,30 January 2020/ Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has written letter to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, requesting repeal of Citizendship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA).
Chief Minister has stated in the letter that on one hand, this Act is appearing to be discriminatory towards illegal immigrants based on their religious beliefs, contradictory to Article-14 of Indian Constitution; on the other hand, the Act has no provision for people of neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan living in India.
Chief Minister stated in the letter that number of demonstrations has been staged in Chhattisgarh in protest of this Act. These were all peaceful demonstrations. However, it has been noted that people from various sections of the state are participating in these peaceful protest demonstrations. Chhattisgarh is basically a state of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (SC, ST and OBC), and most of these people are poor, illiterate and unequipped, which will make it extremely difficult for them to complete the formalities under this Act.
Chief Minister further wrote in the letter that every community is equal for the Constitution, but CAA 2019 enacted by the parliament appears to be damaging the core spirit of the Constitution i.e. secularism. To uphold the right to equality for people of all the communities in the country and to protect this right to equality under Article-14 of Indian Constitution, it is important that no Act should be made in contradiction to the core value of the Constitution. Keeping in view the protest being staged by the common people, and to save poor and illiterate people from the trouble, to maintain peace in the country, and to protect the core values of the Constitution, I request you on behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh to repeal Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), stated Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel in his letter to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
